Erongo Red to refund customers

The Erongo Regional Electricity Distributor (Erongo Red), will credit appropriate units of its customers, who purchased electricity between 1 July and 4 July.This was announced in a statement issued on its social page recently.This comes after the Electricity Control Board recently announced the cancellation of tariff increases for the next year.The new tariffs were set to kick in from 1 July until 30 June 2025.As of 5 July, Erongo Red will continue to charge its customers the 2023/24 tariffs.The cancellation of the 2024/25 tariffs, comes after residents voiced their disappointment via an online petition and letters of grievances sent to…

Von Trotha Street in Otjiwarongo is to be renamed Ohamakari street.This is according to a objection notice by the Otjiwarongo municipality. The street was named after infamous German army military Lieutenant-General Lothar von Trotha.The Ovaherero people have for year been calling for the renaming of the street. MTC gives update on service outage

Following the power outage that affected large parts of Windhoek last night people from all over Namibia were left without cell service.In a statement, MTC explained that the power outage in Windhoek occurred in an area where most of its core systems are located. Two-thirds of Namibians believe that corruption in the country is getting worse.This is according to the Afrobarometer survey released earlier this month.The survey shows that a large majority of people believe that at least some representatives and officials in government, civil society, and business are involved in corruption.According to the survey, most citizens say the government is doing a poor job of fighting corruption and that ordinary people risk retaliation if they speak out. Youth Climate Action Fund launched

75% of teachers not admitted to GIPF

The Government Institutions and Pension Fund (GIPF) has raised concerns about employees of the Ministry of Education, particularly teachers who are not admitted to the fund.According to GIPF general marketing and stakeholder engagement manager, Edwin Tjiramba, they found that a significant number of employees from participating employers are not admitted, despite the requirement for all permanent employees to be admitted to the Fund.He said the most affected employees are those working within the Ministry of Education, accounting for approximately 75% of members not admitted to the Fund or those who experience delays with their admission.Tjiramba stated that the delay or…

The Ministry of Mines and Energy of Namibia has announced a decrease in fuel prices.The price of Unleaded Petrol 95 will drop by 80 cents per litre, 50ppm Diesel by 60 cents per litre, and 10ppm Diesel by 70 cents per litre.According to the announcement, the lower prices will be effective from 3 July.In addition to the downward price adjustments for consumers, the ministry also increased the industry margin by 23 cents to 189 cents per litre and the dealer's margin for service station operators by 9 cents per litre to 192 cents per litre.
