The Namibian Police recorded a total of five robbery cases across the country over the weekend, with suspects targeting residents, businesses and tourists in separate incidents reported between 17 and 19 July.

The most serious incident was reported at Mountain Peak Lodge outside Outjo, where a couple was allegedly robbed at gunpoint while staying at a camping site.

According to the weekend serious incidents police report, the incident occurred on Friday at around 22:30 when two unknown male suspects wearing balaclavas and gloves allegedly approached the couple’s tent.

The suspects were reportedly armed with a pistol and an iron bar and demanded money, personal belongings and the vehicle keys.

Police said the suspects allegedly took cash from a suitcase inside the vehicle before tying up the couple and locking them inside their tent.

The victims later managed to free themselves and alerted the lodge owner. The suspects fled with cash, mobile phones, jewellery and other personal items.

No arrests or recoveries have been made, and police investigations are continuing.

In Ondangwa, a pedestrian was allegedly robbed of a cellphone and bank card after being confronted by two suspects.

Police reported that the male suspect allegedly pointed a pistol at the victim and demanded his mobile phone, while a female suspect allegedly grabbed the victim’s arm from behind and forced him to surrender his belongings before they fled.

Meanwhile, in Oshakati, a robbery incident at Okatana Service Station resulted in the arrest of one suspect.

Police said three suspects allegedly attacked a victim at the bus station and grabbed his mobile phone.

When the victim attempted to fight back, one of the suspects allegedly produced a knife.

An onlooker intervened, causing the suspect to drop the knife. The suspect sustained injuries during the incident and later went to hospital, where he was arrested after being found in possession of the stolen phone.

He remains admitted under police guard while investigations continue.

The police also recorded two robbery-related housebreaking cases in Katima Mulilo.

At Mzazi Bar in the Nasisangani village area, suspects allegedly cut a padlock to enter the premises and stole a jackpot machine and television valued at more than N$93 000.

In a separate incident at Chotto Old Market, suspects allegedly broke a door chain using a brick and stole a television valued at more than N$5 000.

Police said no arrests or recoveries have been made in the Katima Mulilo cases.
