The Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP) president, Mike Kavekotora is urging the Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA) to extend the current tax amnesty until 2025, citing the upcoming elections.
“I request NamRA to extend the moratorium on taxes, interest payments on outstanding tax balances, and penalties to October 2025,” Kavekotora said during an interview with the Windhoek Observer.
His request is derived from the developments in the political environment where many leaders, especially from the ruling party, lost their earnings and needed to plan and arrange their finances to meet the new reality.
Kavekotora said these developments cannot be ignored as they pose a potential risk not only to the affected individuals but also to the entire country
“This calls for a proactive response to this new reality, and I call upon NamRA to demonstrate leadership in this critical moment. This is the first time in our political history that so many leaders are left out from positions they held for a lifetime, positions they felt they were entitled to,” he said.
Kavekotora suggested that the situation within Swapo might even require psychological interventions to help affected leaders adapt to their new circumstances.
“It is a shock and a paradigm shift in the lives of those affected, and NamRA must react responsibly,” he concluded.
