The Namibian and Tanzanian armies have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening defence cooperation following a five-day exchange visit by Tanzania’s Land Forces Commander, Major General Fadhil Omary Nondo, and his delegation.
Nondo and the delegation visited Namibia from 3 to 7 August 2026 as part of ongoing military cooperation between the two countries. The visit followed a recent visit to Tanzania by Namibian Army Commander Major General Aktofel Nambahu.
Welcoming the Tanzanian delegation, Nambahu described the exchange as a demonstration of the longstanding friendship, mutual trust and strategic partnership between Namibia and Tanzania.
He said Namibia valued the hospitality extended to his delegation during their visit to Tanzania and viewed the reciprocal visit as an opportunity to reaffirm the strong bonds between the two countries.
Nambahu also stressed the need for African militaries to strengthen cooperation in responding to emerging security threats, including transnational organised crime, violent extremism, cyber threats and the effects of climate change.
“As professional land forces, we share the responsibility of ensuring that our armies remain capable, adaptable and prepared to respond effectively to these emerging challenges,” Nambahu said.
During the visit, the Tanzanian delegation toured several strategic and military-related sites, including the Army Battle School in Grootfontein, Dune 7, the Walvis Bay Lagoon and the August 26 Group of Companies.
