The Ondangwa Town Council has confirmed a positive rabies case in Extension 4, prompting an urgent vaccination campaign for dogs and cats in affected and surrounding areas.

The information was contained in a public notice issued by the council on Monday, in which residents of Extensions 2, 3, 4 and 6 were urged to present their pets for vaccination from Wednesday, 12 August 2026, regardless of their previous vaccination status.

Vaccinations for Extensions 4 and 6 will take place at the Ondangwa Tennis Club from 09h00 to 13h00, while residents of Extensions 2 and 3 can take their pets to Shinime Primary School from 14h00 to 16h30.

A mobile vaccination team will also operate in the targeted areas to improve coverage.

The council, working with the Directorate of Veterinary Services, warned that rabies is a deadly disease affecting both animals and humans and is almost always fatal once symptoms develop.

Residents have been urged to immediately report suspected rabies cases or animal bite incidents to the relevant authorities.
