The remains of former Robben Island political prisoners Festus Nehale and Simon Petrus Niilenge are set to be exhumed in Cape Town this week, more than 50 years after their deaths.
Their families and traditional leaders are expected to conduct traditional rituals before the exhumations take place.
Nehale and Niilenge are among a group of 84 other Namibian human remains identified in South Africa for repatriation. Officials say the number could increase as the identification and verification process continues.
The remains will be formally handed over by South African minister of sport, arts and culture Gayton McKenzie to Namibia’s education minister Sanet Steenkamp before they are brought back to Namibia.
