A 50-year-old man was shot and killed in Wanaheda on Friday night following an alleged shootout at Soweto Market.

The incident occurred at approximately 23h30 on Hendrik Isaak Street. According to a police report, the deceased was shot with a pistol and died at the scene.

Authorities said it is alleged that an exchange of gunfire took place between the deceased and the suspect. The motive behind the shooting has not yet been established.

Police confirmed that the victim’s next of kin have been informed. The suspect was arrested shortly after the incident and remains in custody.

Investigations are continuing. Police have appealed to members of the public with any information regarding the shooting to contact the nearest police station.
