The ministry of agriculture, fisheries, water and land reform says Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) cases remain confined to the Karasburg State Veterinary District in the //Kharas Region, following intensified nationwide surveillance and traceability efforts.
Between 22 and 25 September, veterinary officials collected 199 samples from the //Kharas, Khomas, Omaheke, Otjozondjupa and Oshana regions.
Seventeen samples tested positive, with all positive results originating from Karasburg.
The ministry also tested 30 cattle linked to the infected farm after four animals were moved to the Otjozondjupa Region. All 30 samples tested negative.
The ministry further said authorities continue to monitor the infected herd and surrounding farms while conducting further clinical examinations, traceability investigations and sampling.
The ongoing surveillance will guide decisions on when and where movement restrictions can be eased.
The ministry said the 14-day incubation period is still ongoing and urged the public to cooperate with veterinary officials as efforts continue to contain the outbreak.
