A caretaker responsible for children at the Delta School hostel in Windhoek tested positive for COVID-19, prompting the temporary closure of its hostel while learners have been instructed to remain at home as a precautionary measure.

According to a notice issued to parents on 14 August 2026, the caretaker tested positive on 13 August. The ministry of health and social services subsequently visited the school on Friday to screen and test hostel staff and learners.

The school said the hostel will remain closed from 14 August for the school holidays, following recommendations from the health ministry. The premises are scheduled to be disinfected on Tuesday, 18 August.

All Delta School learners, including those who are not hostel residents, have been asked to remain at home from Monday, 17 August. Parents have also been requested not to send their children to school during this period.

Parents of hostel residents have also been asked to make arrangements to collect their children.

The school said further communication will be issued should the ministry provide additional information or recommendations.
