The media fraternity bid farewell to Deon van Rensburg, a radio presenter who died last week.
Van Rensburg was a radio presenter with more than 25 years of experience, having graced the airwaves of various stations across Namibia.
He was an employee of Future Media.
“It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of our beloved friend and colleague, Deon van Rensburg, who passed away this morning,” read the statement by Future Media.
Future Media, in their statement, expressed the deep void left by van Rensburg’s passing.
“He was a household name, and his distinctive voice was recognised by many Namibians. As the current host of NOVA Sunrise, Deon brought warmth and energy to countless listeners. His easy-going personality, particularly during his time with Radio Wave’s “Breakfast Crew,” made him a beloved figure in the local broadcasting industry,” reads the statement.
Deon’s legacy will live on, according to the company.
“His voice and spirit will be greatly missed. Rest in peace, Deon,” said the company.
The Editor’s Forum of Namibia chairperson, Frank Steffen, said Deon van Rensburg’s professional conduct and commitment to his work left a permanent mark on the Namibian media industry.
Steffen said that, all too often these days, they have to permanently say goodbye to a colleague or a friend.
“It is, therefore, with great sadness that the EFN received the news of the passing of broadcasting stalwart van Rensburg of Future Media,” he said.
He said that the Namibian public will remember Van Rensburg as a darling and an example to media practitioners.
“The EFN’s thoughts are with his family, colleagues, and friends,” he said.
