The search for 15-year-old Erwin Bezuidenhoudt, who has been missing since 2 July 2026, remains ongoing, with police saying extensive efforts to locate him have so far yielded no positive results.
Bezuidenhoudt was reportedly last seen in the vicinity of the breakwater and beach area at Platz Am Meer in Swakopmund.
In an update issued on Thursday, Namibian Police Force (NAMPOL) acting inspector-general Anne-Marie Nainda said various resources and stakeholders have been involved in the search since Bezuidenhoudt was reported missing.
A helicopter was deployed for aerial observation, while scanning equipment was used to search the rock crevices along the shoreline.
Police divers have also searched the surrounding waters, but no trace of the teenager has been found.
A tactical meeting involving the search task team was held on 28 July at the Office of the Erongo Governor, followed by an on-site assessment of the area.
Police said the exercise was aimed at reassessing the search zone and exploring alternative approaches.
Authorities are also considering the possibility that Bezuidenhoudt could be trapped beneath the heavy rocks in the area.
Management at Platz Am Meer consulted a structural engineering firm on the feasibility of moving or lifting the rocks, but the operation was deemed too risky.
NAMPOL said it understands the distress being experienced by Bezuidenhoudt’s family and has assured them and the public that the search will continue with “unwavering determination”, with police members remaining on the ground.
The teenager’s whereabouts remain unknown.
