Namibian Police are investigating a case of theft by false pretenses that occurred in Klein Windhoek on Friday.
According to police, a 19-year-old man advertised items for sale on Facebook. An unknown male suspect contacted him and agreed to buy the items.
The suspect arranged for a Yango driver to collect the goods and told the complainant that payment of N$11,000.00 would be made via Internet Banking from Bank Windhoek.
The complainant received an SMS from the number 92222 confirming receipt of the money. Relying on this message, he handed the items to the driver.
When the complainant later tried to withdraw the money, the transaction failed. Bank Windhoek confirmed that the number 92222 is not associated with the bank.
No arrests have been made and police investigations are ongoing.
