Khomas Region Governor Sam Shafishuna Nujoma has called on Namibians to draw inspiration from the bravery of the nation’s liberation heroes as the country charts a course toward shared prosperity.
Delivering the welcoming address at the National Commemoration of Heroes’ Day at the Heroes’ Acre in Windhoek, Nujoma spoke under the theme “Built on Bravery, Bound for a Prosperous Future,” emphasising that the courage upon which the nation was founded must continue to fuel its development ambitions.
The ceremony marked the culmination of a significant week for Namibia, which included the reburial of fallen freedom fighters and an investiture ceremony.
Nujoma acknowledged the emotional weight of these events, noting that the words of family members who witnessed the reburial on Monday carried a message that Namibia must never forget its heroes, regardless of where they are laid to rest.
“Their blood, as our national anthem reminds us, waters our freedom,” Nujoma stated, paying tribute to the men and women who sacrificed everything for the nation’s political and economic liberation.
He further reminded the gathering that heroism remains alive in contemporary Namibia, pointing to everyday citizens including teachers, healthcare workers, farmers, and security personnel, whose quiet service continues to strengthen communities and safeguard the nation’s future.
Nujoma stressed that securing a prosperous future requires nurturing courage, selflessness, and patriotism in every generation.
He closed his address by extending a warm welcome to all attendees, including visiting dignitaries from South Africa and Nigeria, traditional leaders, veterans, and diplomats, on behalf of the Khomas Regional Council and its people.
The commemoration is attended by President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, Vice President Lucia Witbooi, Prime Minister Dr. Elijah Ngurare, Cabinet ministers, members of parliament, traditional authorities, and members of the diplomatic corps.
