NSX’s overall share index rises 2.1% as basic materials, consumer staples gain

Namibia Securities Exchange (NSX)’s overall share index rose 2.06% over the week to 2,476.51 points, marking a 15.65% increase since December 2025, according to market data for the period 24 to 28 August.

The index closed at 2,476.51 points, up from 2,426.60 points on the previous day, representing a gain of 49.91 points.

The local index recorded a more modest increase of 0.13% to 852.60 points, up 5.55% from its December 2025 level of 807.75 points.

Among the major sectors, Basic Materials recorded the strongest gain, rising 4.96% to 958.60 points. The sector has increased 33.98% since December 2025.

Consumer Staples was the second-best performer, gaining 3.28% to 1,495.58 points, bringing its increase since December to 13.39%.

Telecommunications rose 0.27% to 309.95 points and is 3.51% higher than its December 2025 level.

Financials, however, declined 0.22% to 748.00 points, although the sector remains 4.82% 

above its December 2025 level.

Real Estate fell 0.79% to 2,590.62 points and is down 4.08% since December.

Consumer Discretionary recorded the sharpest decline among the sectors, falling 7.59% to 2,248.25 points. The sector is now 16.20% below its December 2025 level.

Utilities were unchanged at 1,084.09 points and remained 2.11% below their December 2025 level.

The JSE All Share Index also gained during the period, rising 0.36% to 118,173.36 points from 117,747.80 points previously.

Despite the latest increase, the index is 2.02% higher than its December 2025 level.

The market data shows significant variation in sector performance during 2026. Basic Materials has recorded the strongest increase since December, while Consumer Discretionary has experienced the largest decline.

The Overall index also reached its 2026 high of 2,476.51 points during the period, compared with a 2026 low of 2,070.30 points.
