NSX’s Overall Index falls 1.53% as financials, materials retreat

Namibia Security Exchange’s Overall Index fell 1.53% over the week ended 14 August, declining to 2,403.27 points from 2,440.52 points a day earlier, according to market data for the week of 10 to 14 August.

The decline was driven mainly by losses in the financial and basic materials sectors, which fell 2.10% and 2.05%, respectively. Real estate also declined by 1.02%.

Despite the overall market decline, several sectors recorded gains during the period. Consumer staples was the strongest performer, rising 7.40% to 1,512.60 points, while consumer discretionary increased 1.62% to 2,572.07 points.

Telecommunications gained 0.55% to 309.12 points, while the utilities index was unchanged at 1,084.09 points.

The Local Index edged up 0.13% to 851.04 points, taking its gain since December 2025 to 5.36%. The index has traded between a 2026 low of 807.70 points and a high of 851.04 points.

The Overall Index has gained 12.23% since December 2025, when it stood at 2,141.33 points. It reached a 2026 high of 2,440.52 points and a low of 2,070.30 points.

Among the sector indices, basic materials has recorded the strongest performance since December 2025, rising 21.82%, followed by consumer staples, which has gained 14.68%. Financials are up 6.33%, while Telecommunications has increased 3.23%.

Real estate has declined 0.96% since December, while consumer discretionary is down 4.13%. Utilities have fallen 2.11% over the same period.

The Overall Index carries an actual dividend yield of 3.42%, while the Local Index has a dividend yield of 9.51%. Financials have a 5.50% dividend yield, real estate 5.96%, consumer discretionary 8.99%, and telecommunications 9.87%.

The JSE All Share Index also recorded a decline, falling 2.94% to 114,060.88 points from 117,518.36 points. The South African benchmark is down 1.53% since December 2025.
