The Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA) and Angola’s National Statistics Institute have signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at improving cooperation in statistics, governance and public policy planning.
The agreement was signed in Windhoek this week during a working visit by the Angolan delegation to Namibia.
The two institutions said the agreement will strengthen cooperation in the production and sharing of reliable statistics while improving technical capacity and data systems in both countries.
The MoU focuses on areas such as statistical governance, macroeconomic data, labour statistics, national accounts, censuses, surveys and geographic information systems.
The agencies will also cooperate in digital transformation, artificial intelligence, big data, data science and information security.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, NSA Statistician-general and chief executive officer Alex Shimuafeni said the agreement should focus on practical implementation rather than remaining only a formal document.
Head of Angola’s National Statistics Institute Joel Bumba Sambo Futi said the visit aimed to strengthen cooperation and create opportunities for both countries to share experience in governance, statistical modernisation and digital systems.
The agreement also seeks to strengthen training, professional development and the use of administrative data sources to improve the quality of official statistics.
The two institutions further committed themselves to principles of statistical independence, scientific integrity, transparency and the protection of personal data.
Other areas covered under the agreement include environmental and climate statistics, monitoring of African Union Agenda 2063 targets, Sustainable Development Goals and civil registration systems.
The institutions said the partnership is expected to support stronger planning and policy evaluation in both Namibia and Angola.
