NSA appoints new deputy statistician general

The Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA) has appointed Israel Tjizake as the new deputy statistician general, effective 1 May 2026.

Tjizake replaces Ottilie Mwazi, who retired on 31 March 2026.

The NSA said Tjizake brings more than 25 years of experience in development practice, statistics, data management and institutional leadership, gained through work in government, the United Nations and academia.

He has worked in demography, statistics, programme design, policy development, organisational change and leadership. He also led evaluation studies, strategic planning processes and large-scale surveys and housing and population censuses.

Tjizake holds a Master’s degree in Population Studies and Human Resources, as well as a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Mathematics, Statistics and Economics. He has also completed training in Geographic Information Systems and Economics.

The NSA said his appointment will help strengthen the agency’s strategic direction and support the production of reliable and timely statistics for national development.
