NamPower has opened applications for the position of managing director, offering a five-year contract to lead the national power utility as it seeks to advance its strategic objectives and strengthen electricity security.
The vacancy, based in Windhoek, closes on 24 July 2026, with executive search firm Visions Consulting appointed to independently manage the recruitment process in line with the company’s governance and policy requirements.
According to the vacancy announcement, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing strategic leadership to align NamPower’s operations with its mandate under the Electricity Act of 2007, which includes generating, transmitting, distributing, supplying and trading electricity within Namibia, as well as importing and exporting electricity.
The managing director will also be tasked with implementing the company’s strategic objectives, strengthening corporate governance, fostering stakeholder relations, overseeing financial sustainability, driving operational excellence, and ensuring long-term organisational performance.
Among the key performance areas are leading corporate strategy, overseeing transmission and generation businesses, strengthening enterprise risk management, developing strategic partnerships with government, regulators, investors and customers, and promoting innovation across the organisation.
NamPower said applicants must hold a recognised master’s degree in electrical engineering or another energy-related field at NQF Level 9, as well as a master’s degree in business administration or leadership.
Candidates are also required to have at least 15 years’ practical experience in the energy, electricity supply or related sector, including a minimum of five years at executive level.
The utility is seeking a candidate with demonstrated strategic leadership, strong financial and governance expertise, sound decision-making abilities, stakeholder engagement skills, political awareness, and experience working with boards of directors.
The successful applicant is also expected to possess strong communication skills, a people-centred leadership style, and the ability to drive innovation and organisational sustainability.
Applicants are required to submit a motivation letter, a detailed curriculum vitae with at least two professional references, certified copies of academic qualifications, a police clearance certificate issued within the past six months, and certified copies of identity documents and supporting records.
Preference will be given to Namibian citizens, while all shortlisted candidates will undergo a vetting process.
NamPower said only online applications submitted through the Visions Consulting recruitment portal will be accepted, with emailed or manually submitted applications not considered.
The utility also encouraged applications from members of designated groups and persons with disabilities who meet the advertised requirements, in line with the Affirmative Action (Employment) Act 29 of 1998.
Current MD, Kahenge Simson Haulofu was appointed in 2015 after he replaced Paulinus Shilamba. Shilamba was appointed as MD of NamPower in 2006. Shilamba had replaced Leake Hangala who had been MD for over 10 years.
