Namibia market indices mixed as consumer staples and financials gain

Namibia’s local equity market ended the session on a mixed note, with the overall index declining 1.04% while the local index edged 0.16% higher, in the week running from 31 August to 4 September. 

The Overall Index fell 25.77 points to 2 450.74 from 2 476.51 previously. Despite the daily decline, the index remains 14.45% higher than its December 2025 level of 2 141.33.

The Local Index increased 1.33 points to 853.93, representing a 0.16% gain. It is now 5.72% above its December 2025 level of 807.75.

Among the sectors, Consumer Staples recorded the strongest daily performance, rising 2.42% to 1 531.71. The sector is up 16.13% since December 2025.

Financials also advanced, gaining 0.64% to 752.77, while Telecommunications rose 0.45% to 311.34 and Real Estate increased 0.44% to 2 601.90. Utilities were unchanged at 1 084.09.

The biggest decline came from Consumer Discretionary, which fell 3.93% to 2 159.90. The sector is down 19.49% since December 2025.

Basic Materials also weakened, dropping 3.47% to 925.38, although the sector remains the strongest performer since December 2025, having gained 29.34%.

The JSE All Share Index also declined, falling 1.22% to 116 725.80 from 118 173.36 previously. It remains 0.77% above its December 2025 level of 115 832.00.

The sector data show that while the broader Namibian market experienced some selling pressure during the session, gains in Consumer Staples, Financials, Telecommunications and Real Estate supported the local index.
