Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC) has congratulated Netball Namibia on securing a historic qualification for the upcoming Netball World Cup, describing the achievement as a reflection of the growth, resilience and excellence of Namibian sport.
MTC chief brand, marketing, communications and sustainability officer Tim Ekandjo said the qualification was the result of years of dedication by players, coaches, administrators and other stakeholders.
“We are immensely proud of Netball Namibia’s outstanding achievement. The World Cup qualification reflects years of dedication, sacrifice and an unwavering commitment to excellence.”
Ekandjo said the achievement would inspire young athletes and demonstrate what could be achieved through hard work, vision and strong leadership.
He said the qualification also highlighted the growing strength of women’s sport and the role of sport in promoting national pride, social cohesion and youth empowerment.
“This is the vision we had when we launched the MTC Namibia Netball Premiership, and seeing it come to life today means everything,” Ekandjo said.
He noted that the World Cup qualification came only six years after the establishment of the MTC Namibia Netball Premiership in 2021.
MTC’s structured sponsorship of Netball Namibia began in 2021 with an initial three-year commitment of N$4.8 million, aimed at professionalising netball and establishing a national elite league.
Following the successful inaugural season, the annual sponsorship increased from N$1.6 million to N$1.9 million. The annual sponsorship remained at N$1.9 million in 2023 before rising by 36% to N$2.5 million in 2024 under a renewed multi-year commitment.
In 2026, MTC renewed its sponsorship at N$3.4 million annually to further professionalise the league, improve player welfare and support outreach programmes.
As part of the player welfare drive, every player competing in the MTC Namibia Netball Premier League now receives a minimum allowance of N$1,200.
“Since 2021, MTC has invested more than N$12 million in developing and professionalising Namibian netball, supporting the growth of the MTC Namibia Netball Premier League and creating opportunities for hundreds of athletes nationwide,” Ekandjo said.
MTC said the national team’s qualification had raised Namibia’s profile on the global sporting stage and called on Namibians to support the team as it prepares for the World Cup.
“The hard work is paying off, and the nation stands behind you. We look forward to seeing our national team represent Namibia with pride and display the talent, passion and fighting spirit that define our people,” Ekandjo said.
