The Martha Namundjebo-Tilahun Foundation, in partnership with National United Security Services (NUSS), on Thursday donated essential items to the City of Windhoek Fire Brigade to support firefighters battling veldfires around Windhoek.
The donation comes as the City of Windhoek confirmed that the veldfire in the Ongos area has been extinguished. Any remaining fire activity is limited to interior fires that are fully contained and not spreading.
Preliminary data from the Directorate of Forestry under the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism indicates that approximately 4 700 hectares were affected by the Ongos veldfire.
In the Daan Viljoen area, the fire in the western section of Augeikas Farm has also been extinguished. However, a small active fire line was observed moving towards Daan Viljoen, prompting a dedicated firefighting team to work on containing it and preventing further spread.
The foundation and NUSS said the donation reflects their commitment to fulfilling their national duty and supporting communities during times of need. They also commended firefighters for their courage, dedication and service as the City continues to monitor the situation.
