Instant Payments Namibia launches website to boost public awareness

Instant Payments Namibia (IPN) has launched its official website as part of efforts to improve public awareness and stakeholder engagement around Namibia’s national instant payments programme.

The website, http://www.ipn.com.na, will serve as a central source of information on the development of the country’s instant payments ecosystem, including the Namibia Instant Payment Solution (IPS) and its consumer-facing brand, WayaMe.

IPN chief operating officer, Marsorry Ickua said the platform is intended to provide Namibians, participating financial institutions, businesses, the media and other stakeholders with accessible information on the programme and its development.

IPN is a subsidiary of the Bank of Namibia established to operate and manage the IPS. The solution is being developed to connect participating banks, payment service providers and electronic money issuers through shared payment infrastructure, common rules and technical standards.

The website provides information on how the IPS is designed to facilitate interoperability between participating providers, while WayaMe will provide a common consumer-facing identity for payment services enabled by the solution.

Customers will continue to access instant payment services through the applications, digital wallets, USSD services and other channels provided by their respective banks and payment service providers.

IPN said the website also outlines the phased development of the IPS and the payment use cases it is intended to support.

These include person-to-person transfers, merchant payments, business payments and other approved use cases, subject to participating-provider availability.

The platform provides information on the programme’s objectives, including interoperability, affordability, safety and financial inclusion.

It also includes frequently asked questions, participation requirements for licensed institutions and updates on programme milestones.

IPN said the Instant Payment Solution is a key enabler of the National Payment System Vision 2030, supporting the development of a more inclusive, interoperable and digitally enabled payments ecosystem in Namibia.

The organisation said making information about the programme more accessible is intended to strengthen public awareness and confidence as the solution is introduced in phases.
