The completion of the Havana 4 Way intersection remains stalled, with the City of Windhoek now seeking a court order to evict about 40 households whose structures are occupying the community market area.
Responding to a public enquiry, the City of Windhoek said the intersection remains incomplete due to resistance from the affected households, despite the municipality having allocated them alternative plots in the newly established Havana Extensions 8 and 11.
“The Havana 4 Way intersection remains incomplete due to resistance from approximately 40 households whose structures are currently occupying the community market area,” the post reads.
The municipality said it has initiated the process of obtaining an eviction court order to clear the structures and allow the outstanding construction works to proceed.
According to the City, more than 100 households have already been relocated from the road reserve to Havana Extensions 8 and 11. However, about 40 households remain on the site, preventing the contractor from completing the project.
The affected area also includes vendors operating within the road reserve. The City of Windhoek said these vendors will only be able to vacate the area once the remaining household structures have been removed.
The municipality said the relocation and clearance of the area are necessary to allow the contractor to complete the outstanding works at the Havana 4 Way intersection.
