Hamata resigns from PDM

Hidipo Hamata, a longstanding member of the Popular Democratic Movement (PDM), has formally resigned from the party effective today.

In a letter addressed to the PDM secretary general Manuel Ngaringombe, Hamata confirmed his departure after years of involvement spanning the party’s history, including its period before and after rebranding.

He expressed gratitude for the leadership experience and political growth gained during his tenure, stating the decision was made “after careful reflection.”

When asked about the motivation behind his resignation, Hamata described it as “a personal decision.”

Hamata pushed back against speculation of an immediate political pivot.

“Why must one immediately join another party after resigning?”

He confirmed he has no intention of forming a new political entity either, noting, “Namibia already has many political parties.”

He offered no further details beyond his written notice, concluding: “There is really nothing more to add beyond what is already publicly known.”

Hamata wished the PDM continued growth and success within Namibia’s democratic landscape.

Ngaringombe told the Windhoek Observer that the party has accepted Hamata’s resignation.

“We have accepted his resignation and wish him well in his future endeavours,” he said.
