The Namibian Correctional Service chess team has qualified for the Intercontinental Online Chess Championship for Prisoners after finishing fifth at the Second Continental Online Chess Championship for Prisoners – Africa.
The tournament took place on 12 May under the International Chess Federation’s Chess for Freedom initiative.
According to the Namibian Correctional Service, the team secured four wins and three losses against competitors from across Africa.
Eight inmates were selected to represent Namibia after competitive trials held on 2 May 2026 at the Windhoek Correctional Facility.
The team’s performance earned Namibia a place at the Intercontinental Online Chess Championship scheduled for October 2026.
