The minister of urban and rural development, James Sankwasa, has announced the appointment of three new members to the Council of Traditional Leaders in accordance with the Council of Traditional Authorities Act, 1997.

The appointments were published in Government Gazette No. 8977 and took effect on the date of publication.

According to the gazette, chief Eugen Siwombe Kudumo has been appointed to represent the Kwangali traditional authority, while traditional councillor Mukamba Evans Katukula will represent the Masubia traditional authority.

Traditional councillor Muhembo Sebastian has also been appointed to serve on the council as the representative of the Mbukushu/Hambakushu traditional authority.

The appointments were made under Section 3 of the Council of Traditional Authorities Act, which provides for members of the council to be designated by their respective traditional authorities before being formally appointed by the minister.

The Council of Traditional Leaders serves as an advisory body on matters relating to traditional leadership, customary law, and issues affecting traditional communities in Namibia.
