Four killed in head-on crash near Kalkfeld

Four people died and multiple others were injured Thursday night when a delivery truck and a 15-seater Quantum minibus collided head-on on the C33 outside Kalkfeld.

Otjozondjupa Police Community Liaison Officer, Senior Inspector Maureen Mbeha, said the crash happened at around 19h45, about 7km from Kalkfeld on the road toward Omaruru.

Mbeha said the truck’s rear left tyre burst, causing the driver to lose control, according to preliminary findings.

“The light delivery vehicle swerved off the road and back onto it before colliding head-on with an oncoming Quantum minibus travelling in the direction of the coast,” she stated.

Three of the victims were passengers in the Quantum.

Police identified them as a 59-year-old Namibian man, a 42-year-old Namibian man, and an adult male whose age is yet to be confirmed.

The fourth fatality was a 37-year-old Namibian man who was a passenger in the delivery truck.

Their names have not been released pending notification of next of kin.

The remaining passengers suffered injuries ranging from serious to moderate. They were taken to state hospitals in Otjiwarongo and Omaruru for treatment.

Police investigations are ongoing.
