One person has died after a truck transporting cattle overturned on the Western Bypass in Windhoek in the early hours of Monday.
It is alleged that the truck, which was pulling a trailer loaded with cattle, reportedly overturned at around 02h00 behind the University of Namibia (Unam). About 90 cattle died in the crash, while traffic was disrupted as emergency services responded to the scene.
Preliminary information indicates the driver lost control of the vehicle before it veered off the road and overturned.
In a separate incident a few metres away, another truck carrying juice also overturned, leaving at least one person injured. The extent of the injuries has not yet been confirmed.
Police have confirmed one fatality, but the identity of the deceased is being withheld until the next of kin have been informed.
