Capricorn Group, through the Capricorn Foundation and in partnership with Imago Dei, honoured grassroots community leaders from across Namibia at a ceremony in Windhoek.
Emma Kantema, member of parliament and minister of gender equality and child welfare, attended as guest of honour and personally presented each of the 35 community leaders with a certificate of appreciation.
Marlize Horn, group chief brand and corporate affairs officer at Capricorn Group, Horn said Capricorn’s purpose, being connectors of positive change, guides the foundation’s approach to partnership.
“This means going beyond funding to connect trusted community organisations with resources, networks and capacity, so that their work can create responsible and lasting value. She also described the community leaders as the trusted connection between intention and impact, and as the people who turn opportunity into positive change where it matters most,” said Horn.
In her address on the theme “Service Beyond Self: The Power of Everyday Heroes”, Kantema spoke of a form of heroism rooted in responsibility, compassion and moral courage.
“Policy alone does not raise a child, comfort a family, feed a hungry household or restore human dignity in a moment of crisis,” she added.
The minister also recognised the collective impact of projects advancing food security, child protection, early childhood development, women’s livelihoods and frontline community support across Namibia.
Capricorn Group chief executive officer David Nuyoma said every organisation needs someone who will do the work when it is difficult.
“Not when it is announced, celebrated or funded, but when it is simply difficult. You are those people,” he stated.
