The country’s import bill for controlled agronomy products rose to N$674.8 million in the second quarter of 2026, up from N$422.1 million recorded during the corresponding quarter of 2025, according to the Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA), Statistician-General and chief executive, Alex Shimuafeni.
Controlled agronomy production, covering white maize, pearl millet and wheat, increased to 52 515 tonnes during the quarter, compared with 35 765 tonnes in the same quarter of 2025.
The increase represents a rise of 16 750 tonnes in production between the two periods. Agronomy exports were valued at N$122 000 during the second quarter of 2026, compared with N$15 900 recorded during the corresponding quarter of 2025.
The figures are contained in the NSA’s Quarterly Agriculture and Fishing Indicator Statistical Bulletin for the second quarter of 2026, covering the period from April to June.
The bulletin tracks short-term developments in Namibia’s agriculture and fishing sectors, including crop production, fish landings, international merchandise trade and auction prices.
In the fishing sector, total landings of quota species amounted to 101 546 metric tonnes during the second quarter of 2026, down 1.1% from 102 658 metric tonnes recorded in the corresponding quarter of 2025.
Despite the decline in landings, fish product exports increased to N$4.6 billion during the quarter, from N$4.1 billion in the same period of 2025.
Imports of fish products also increased, reaching N$189.2 million compared with N$155 million recorded in the second quarter of 2025.
The higher export value resulted in a trade surplus of N$4.4 billion for fish products during the quarter.
