The City of Windhoek has confirmed that two employees of Cape Advanced Engineering Namibia (CAE) died following an incident at the Gammams Water Care Works Wastewater Treatment Plant on Friday, 7 August 2026.

The incident occurred at approximately 09:30 while the employees were undertaking work at the facility.

City personnel responded immediately, while the City’s Emergency Management Services were dispatched to assist with the emergency response, rescue and recovery operation.

A third CAE employee survived the incident and is recovering.

CAE is contracted by the City of Windhoek to undertake specified works and services at the plant.

The City said the circumstances surrounding the incident are being addressed through the appropriate formal processes and that a thorough and objective investigation will be conducted.
