In a renewed commitment to vulnerable children affected by HIV/AIDS, the Capricorn Foundation has pledged an additional N$300,000 to Christ’s Hope International, a Namibian non-profit.
Recent findings indicate a concerning 43 percent of Namibians experience multidimensional poverty. A staggering one in five children in the country are stunted while constantly struggling with acute malnutrition.
Christ’s Hope International, founded in 2003 in Okahandja, has since its inception been a beacon of hope for vulnerable children. With a steadfast mission to break the poverty cycle, the organisation currently operates in Keetmanshoop and Oshikuku, supporting 290 children and 100 families.
The generous funding from the Capricorn Foundation will be allocated to various essential needs: school uniforms, stationery, meals, and scholarships.
Hannelie Turner, Country Team Leader at Christ’s Hope, reflected on the organization’s journey with impacted children.
“The children enter the programme in Grade 1 and graduate when they complete their secondary schooling. Witnessing their transformation from young kids to teenagers over 10 – 12 years and knowing we played a part in moulding their future is deeply rewarding,” she said.
She indicated that Christ’s Hope takes a holistic approach, ensuring every child is not only provided for but nurtured. Their comprehensive system encompasses educational activities, medical support, nutritious meals, home evaluation, spiritual nourishment, and emotional counselling and mentorship.
“Education is a cornerstone for the Capricorn Foundation. Combined with our Vulnerability Programmes, we are uniquely positioned to address the comprehensive needs of these children. As Connectors of Positive Change, we’re elated to extend our financial aid to Christ’s Hope, aiding them in their mission to uplift children and their families from the chains of poverty.” Marlize Horn, Capricorn Foundation’s Executive Officer said.
During a recent visit to the Oshikuku after-school centre, Horn observed the enthusiasm of the learners.
“It was heartwarming to witness how eager they were for their extra afternoon classes, a nutritious meal, and bible study,” she narrated her experience.
In line with its vision, Christ’s Hope International envisions that beneficiaries should be able to complete their secondary education, absorb biblical truths, principles, and values, attain robust emotional and social development, maintain their health through informed choices and that they acquire life skills that will promote their eventual independence.
Horn said that in a nation where poverty reigns, such partnerships will give hope for a brighter, more equitable future for Namibian children.
