The government plans to disposal 600 metric tons of Monk Freezer Fish to the highest bidder. This is part of the governmental objective to auction fish quotas to the highest bidder.
The Ministry of Finance and Public Enterprises and the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources has invited bidders for 600 metric ton of Monk Freezer Fish on the following conditions bids must be in multiples of 100 metric ton with a minimum price of N$10 000 per MT of monk freezer fish.
The ministry said quota will be allocated to the highest bidders at their bid-price, ascending from highest to lowest, until the full 600 MT have been allocated, or the reserve price has been reached.
The Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises will not allot bids below the reserve price, nor allot the residual quotas through any other means should the reserve price not be met for the full 600 MT on offer.
The successful bidders will be expected to pay by 15 September. The full auction results will be announced by end of September.
The Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources shall allocate the quota to the successful bidder after the submission of the Notification of Award from the Ministry of Finance and Public Enterprises together with the proof of payment. Bids should be accompanied by a proof of payment of N$1000 non-refundable.
In 2020, the government adopted a resolution to auction fish quotas using a competitive bidding system. This approach ensures the nation receives equitable value for its fishery resources and maximises benefits from its natural assets.
In February this year, the government raised a total of N$110.1 million from the sale of 12,300 metric tons of hake fish through an auction.
The hake quota was the third auction in 2022, following an auction of 1000 metric tons of monk in June and 11090 metric tons of horse mackerel in April last year.
In March this year, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources opened bidding for 30 540 metric tonnes (MT) of Horse Mackerel.
The government has set the total allowable catch (TAC) for horse mackerel at 290 000 metric tonnes (MT) for the 2023 season.
