The Motor Vehicle Accident Fund has opened a new Emergency Medical Response Services centre in Mariental, which is aimed at bringing equitable quality health care to communities.
MVA’s Corporate Communication and Stakeholder Relations Manager, Hilaria Graig during the launch of the response centre said access to equitable quality health care, particularly in emergency medical response services for road crash victims, remains a high priority to the Fund.
“This is in response to Pillar Five of the Decade of Action Plan which aims to increase responsiveness to post-crash emergencies and improve the ability of health and other systems to provide appropriate emergency treatment,” Graig said.
The Emergency Medical Response Centre will operate from the Mariental Fire Department and respond to motor vehicle accidents and other emergencies as well as provide medical day-to-day services to the community.
It will also strengthen emergency responses for both the //Karas and Hardap regions on the B1 route to ensure that those injured in motor vehicle crashes are provided with the required emergency medical care within the golden hour.
The activation of the response centre is in line with the fund’s quest to complement emergency medical response services in Namibia, as well as to minimize the loss of life during a motor vehicle crash in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Social Services and the Mariental Municipality.
Meanwhile, Mariental Mayor Cherien Kock, in an interview with the Windhoek Observer yesterday, said that the activation of the response centre is an indication that service delivery is brought closer to the people and their desire for inclusivity for all when it comes to health care facilities in the region.
“This really means that we as an organization are committed to bringing service delivery closer to our people and building a sustainable community to reflect on our desires for inclusivity and collaboration between response agencies within the town and the region”, Kock explained.
She further said that the centre is the first of its kind in the region and that it will be the first leading response agency which she says is a historical moment for the region.
