THE body of a 23-year-old mother, Lydia Garises, was found in Dordabis yesterday. Police say the deceased private parts were cut off and preliminary investigations show that the woman was raped.
Namibian Police Spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, says the remains of Garises, a mother to a ten-month-old baby, were discovered by a passerby around 17h50 near a river in the Stinkwater area. Shikwambi says the victim was last seen on Saturday at a wedding around 23h00.
The gruesome murder follows the Gender Based Violence (GBV) 16 days of activism, which seeks to mitigate crimes perpetrated against women and children. No arrests have been made yet but investigations continue.
Public members with information relating to the incident or the successful arrest of suspects should contact Warrant Officer Kavari on 081 280 0326 and Sergeant Kaoko on 081 642 0826 or approach the nearest police station.
In another shocking incident, a woman was arrested at Windhoek’s Rocky Crest area after the remains of her new born baby were discovered in her closet. The 26-year-old woman was employed as a house keeper. Her employer reportedly called the police after a suspicious smell came from the suspect’s room.
It is alleged that the suspect also cut the baby’s body in half and threw away the intestines in the dustbin, where the police found them.
