The City of Windhoek says recent water discolouration in parts of the capital was caused by an interruption in supply from NamWater after damage to the pipeline between the Von Bach Water Treatment Plant and Windhoek.
City spokesperson Lydia Amutenya said on Monday that the reduced inflow caused reservoir levels across the city to drop significantly.
She said the low water levels disturbed sediment at the bottom of some reservoirs, causing the water to appear brown.
“Reservoirs serving areas such as Katutura and Okuryangava were particularly affected due to the low water levels experienced during the interruption,” Amutenya said.
She said the issue is mainly aesthetic and does not affect the safety of the water for consumption.
