TransNamib, state-owned rail operator, in a decisive move to reinforce ethical business practices, introduced a dedicated Whistleblower Line, aimed at promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance within the organisation.
Announcing the initiative on Monday, TransNamib’s chief executive officer, Desmond van Jaarsveld, said the new platform would provide employees, customers, and stakeholders with a secure and confidential avenue to report unethical conduct, fraud, corruption, or misconduct.
“The Whistleblower Line is an independent and anonymous reporting channel that allows individuals to share concerns without fear of retaliation. TransNamib encourages all stakeholders to use this platform responsibly to help maintain the highest standards of integrity and professionalism within the organisation,” he said.
Van Jaarsveld reiterated that the initiative was key in developing a culture of good governance and rebuilding confidence in the company’s operations.
He said that ethical leadership is essential for TransNamib’s transformation.
“Our commitment to good corporate governance and ethical leadership is steadfast. The Whistleblower Line is an important step in ensuring that any wrongdoing is identified and addressed promptly, protecting the integrity of our operations and the trust of our stakeholders,” he said.
According to Van Jaarsveld, reports can be made by calling the toll-free number 0800 402 501, sending an email to transnamib@tip-offs.com, or logging onto the TransNamib website at www.tip-offs.com.
Van Jaarsveld assured that all reports would be investigated thoroughly, and the identity of whistleblowers would remain strictly confidential.
He also urged employees and stakeholders to remain vigilant and actively contribute to upholding accountability within the organisation.
“By working together, we can ensure that TransNamib remains a trusted and ethical leader in Namibia’s rail transport sector,” he said.
He added that the introduction of the Whistleblower Line is aimed at strengthening TransNamib’s internal governance mechanisms while also reinforcing its commitment to operational integrity and stakeholder confidence.
