After undergoing a minor preventative surgical procedure to correct a cardiac issue President Hage Geingob took to social media to thank every person who sent him well wishes.
“I would like to thank the Namibians, cabinet colleagues, leaders of political parties, comrades and friends from all over the world for all the kind messages of support and well-wishes following my aortic procedure on Friday,” he said in a message posted on his social media platforms.
At the start of the weekend, the President was flown to South Africa to undergo the preventative surgical procedure.
In a statement issued by the Namibian Presidency on Friday, the presidential medical team detected a mild aortic stenosis during a routine medical checkup.
Although the condition was asymptomatic, the medical staff advised the President to undergo the minor aortic procedure in Namibia’s neighbouring country.
State House informed the Namibian public that President Geingob would have elected to undergo the procedure locally but a lack of specific medical expertise in Namibia resulted in the procedure being performed in a South African hospital.
“President Geingob will continue to champion transparency and accountability in governance, including disclosure on matters pertaining to his health,” the statement by the presidency said.
President Geingob has always emphasized the need for a healthy lifestyle as well as early detection of symptoms as important for the health of Namibians and the nation. With regard to the good wishes, President Geingob said that he was unable to respond to each and every message individually.
“However, please be assured of my sincere gratitude to each and every one of you for the uplifting messages throughout this period,” he said.
State House assured the Namibian people that the procedure was a success and that President Geingob remains fit and healthy, and will resume presidential duties tomorrow.
