The Namibia National Mayors’ Forum (NNMF) announced that Trevino Forbes, the Mayor of Walvis Bay and Vice President of the Independent Patriots for Change (IPC), has been elected as the new President of the leadership body
Forbes, representing IPC, went head-to-head with Johannes Ndeutepo, the Mayor of Omuthiya and a representative of the ruling party, during the elections held last week in Lüderitz.
Out of the 23 total votes cast by the Forum’s paid-up members, Forbes secured 12 votes, while Ndeutepo received 11 votes.
Forbes emerged as the winner, securing 52 percent of the votes, while Ndeutepo narrowly missed the position with 48 percent.
In light of his second-place finish, Ndeutepo has been appointed as the Vice President, supporting Forbes in his new role.
In addition to the election of its leadership, the Forum also selected new Executive Committee members from various municipalities, including the City of Windhoek, Walvis Bay, Swakopmund, Omuthiya, Tsumeb, Mariental, and Opuwo.
Forbes outlined the Forum’s objectives, emphasizing its commitment to addressing various issues affecting residents in different towns across Namibia. He stressed the importance of collaborating to introduce new developments and initiatives.
Forbes dismissed rumours circulating on social media regarding Ndeutepo’s vote count, clarifying that such claims are baseless and divisive.
He expressed respect for Ndeutepo’s dedication to his role as a mayor and emphasized their cooperation towards the Forum’s goals.
He underscored the significance of unity among Namibian mayors, irrespective of their political affiliations, to work collectively for the betterment of their communities.
Forbes stressed the importance of shared knowledge and expertise among mayors to address national issues effectively.
In a notable effort, the Forum has already raised N$200,000, which was donated to the Windhoek Katutura Intermediate Hospital to support its operations.
