As food insecurity continues to threaten some areas in Namibia, Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) leader, McHenry Venaani, contends that the hunger crisis in the country qualifies as an exasperating matter that requires a collective resolution.
While advising other lawmakers, politicians and leaders to put aside their political differences, he reiterated that only a united Namibia would exonerate hunger in the country.
“The hunger crisis in Namibia is not a matter that can be solved by any one party, individual or organisation. It is a c stics are also substantiated by the World Health Organisation, which reveals Namibia currently faces a grave food insecurity crisis, with over 40 percent of the population living below the poverty line.
He appeals to government agencies, the business community and the country at large to prioritise food assistance and deliver immediate relief to the most affected areas across the country.
At the same time, Venaani advises the Office of the Prime Minister to facilitate the donation through the establishment of facilities similar to that of a meat bank.
This, he said enables farmers to donate meat, which can be distributed to needy families and communities efficiently.
While commenting on this matter, Venaani used the opportunity to encourage fellow politicians and leaders to do away with politics and join hands together as Namibians to fight food insecurity in the country.
“It is our duty, our moral obligation, and our shared responsibility to ensure that no Namibian goes to bed hungry. As leaders of this nation, we should not turn a blind eye to the grave dangers of having a food-insecure population,” he stresses. He explains that the risk of social challenge and instability, increased crime and a diminishing workforce are ever present in a nation where food security should be a fundamental right.
