The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT) is committed to strengthening risk management within the country’s digital landscape through a comprehensive training session.

The training on Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) was officially launched by the deputy minister of information and communication technology, Modestus Amutse, who reiterated the government’s determination to fortify ICT infrastructure while mitigating emerging risks.

“The MICT is the backbone of our nation’s digital infrastructure, playing a central role in shaping the future of Namibia’s digital landscape,” he said.

He added that while technological advancements bring immense opportunities, they also expose the sector to risks such as cyber threats, data breaches, and technological obsolescence.

The training, conducted with the support of the Commonwealth Secretariat, seeks to embed ERM principles within the Ministry’s operations to safeguard Namibia’s digital progress.

“Your presence here is a clear indication of the collective commitment we share to ensure that the Ministry harnesses the full potential of ICT while effectively managing the risks associated with its rapid advancement,” he told participants.

Amutse said that the ministry has already taken proactive steps towards strengthening its risk management framework.

“Currently, we are in the process of conducting a comprehensive review of our ERM Policy, which will soon be approved by our minister. Following this, an ERM Framework will be developed to guide the implementation of the policy,” he said.

Amutse added that to further reinforce these measures, the MICT has established an independent Audit and Risk Committee and appointed risk champions within each division.

He said that these strategic moves aim to instil a culture of risk awareness and accountability at every level of the organisation.

Amutse acknowledged that risk management is an evolving process that requires continuous learning and adaptation.

“ERM is an ongoing journey. This training marks a critical step in embedding ERM into our Ministry’s day-to-day operations,” he said.

He also expressed confidence that the session would equip participants with the necessary skills to navigate the complexities of ICT-related risks, ensuring that MICT remains resilient and effective in delivering its mandate.

“Our approach to risk management will provide clarity, direction, and assurance on the reliability of MICT’s systems and the services we provide to the people of Namibia,” he said.

Encouraging participants to make the most of the training, he urged them to actively engage, share experiences, and collaborate.

“This training is designed to equip you with the tools and expertise to address the challenges we face in the ICT sector and to safeguard our country’s digital transformation,” he said.

He said that the ministry envisions a future where innovation and security go hand in hand.

“Together, let us build a Ministry of ICT that is not only innovative and dynamic but also secure, reliable, and resilient in its mission to support Namibia’s digital future,” he said.
