A 54-year-old Namibian teacher from Kamanjab has been defrauded of N$11,500 which was allegedly withdrawn from her bank account on 19th Jan 2024, in an unknown manner.

A police crime report issued yesterday by Chief Inspector Elifas Kuwinga said the teacher was called by an unknown person during December 2023 who introduced himself as an MTC official and informed her that she won N$8,000 after having registered her MTC sim card.

She was, therefore, requested to provide her bank account details which include ATM Card digits numbers and the card expiry dates which she provided.

“It is further alleged that from there on she did not receive any communication until 19 January 2024 when the victim observed that N$11,500.00 was withdrawn from her bank account on a payday in an unknown manner. Money is not yet recovered and the suspect is unknown at this stage. Police investigation continues.

In a separate incident at Tsumeb, they reported that 35-year-old, Obed Ronny, lost his life after he was electrocuted while giving money to a neighbour through a fence which has illegally connected electrical cables that were not properly sealed, causing the whole fence to be electrified and as a result the deceased was electrocuted.

He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival at Tsumeb Lombardt District State Hospital.

The deceased remains were taken to Tsumeb Lombaardt District State Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination to be conducted and his next of kin were informed. Police investigation continues.
