Swapo secretary general, Sophia Shaningwa, has instructed party members to rally behind and support Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, the party’s presidential candidate.
Shaningwa issued a directive to all party wings, affiliates, and the school to begin campaign and mobilisation activities for the upcoming 2024 Presidential and National Assembly Elections.
“Without deviating from our core responsibility of delivering basic services to our people, we must re-direct our collective efforts and re-double our commitment, towards ensuring that the SWAPO Party and its Presidential candidate, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah emerges victorious in the November General elections,” she said.
The party is currently faced with an internal fight with some members demanding that it should host an extraordinary congress to elect a party leader.
Swapo has been without a leader since the death of President Hage Geingob on 4 February.
The central committee in March announced that the party will have an elective congress only in April 2025.
