The Swakopmund municipality has announced a donation of five erven, collectively valued at N$338 000, to first-time homeowners listed on the town’s Master Waiting List.
The council decided to provide residents with affordable land under the 40/40 (Credit-Link) Housing Project on October 8.
The erven are located in Extensions 6 and 7 of Matutura and collectively cover 1 877 square metres, with individual values ranging from N$64 000 to N$70 000.
Linda Mupupa, a spokesperson for Swakopmund, explained that the original servicing of these units with government funds under the Mass Housing Project made the donation possible.
“The land is therefore being donated by the council,” Mupupa said.
The municipality confirmed that recipients will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis, provided they meet the criteria and submit pre-approval from their financial institutions by 25 November.
“A total of 135 qualifying applicants who applied as far back as 2010 were contacted. A thorough screening of these applicants led to some being unsuccessful due to reasons such as not submitting pre-approval within 45 days, relocation to other towns, unemployment, or already owning a home,” Mupupa said.
Residents may inspect the full details of the transaction at the Municipal Head Office, Housing Section, on weekdays until 8 November.
The municipality has also specified that objections to the donation must be submitted in writing to the Chief Executive Officer’s office by 15 November.
