The Swakopmund Municipality, in collaboration with Paul and Lucy Investment, unveiled the completion of Phase 1 of the Ondjamba Road upgrade.
During the opening of the newly upgraded road, Mayor Dina Namubes, said the improved infrastructure is a crucial shift from a gravel path to a modern interlocked street that signifies a new era of progress and prosperity for the residents of Swakopmund.
According to Namubes, the transformation of Ondjamba Road is more than just an infrastructural upgrade; it’s a testament to the community’s resilience, dedication, and collective effort towards enhancing the general welfare in a cost-effective manner.
She said that with a procurement cost totalling N$6,300,421.05, this project illustrates a strategic approach to urban development, emphasizing the importance of teamwork and the effective utilization of limited resources. Namubes highlighted the significance of collaborative decision-making in achieving such milestones, underscoring that the success of the project was not the fruit of individual efforts but a result of the collective input and labour of the council, its management team, administration, and the contractor.
“This collective achievement has not only enhanced the town’s aesthetic appeal but also its functional capacity in terms of transportation and connectivity,” she added.
The upgraded road is expected to facilitate smoother traffic flow and enhance pedestrian safety, fostering a more vibrant and cohesive community atmosphere.
The focus on improving the quality of life for citizens, through accessible and well-maintained infrastructure, reflects the municipality’s commitment to its overarching mission.
Namubes added that the proposed Grootfontein Street expansion, connecting to Ondjamba Street, aims to further ease travel times and reduce traffic congestion between Mondesa, Tamariskia, and Vineta.
This initiative stresses the importance of a systematic approach to road improvement, ensuring that the benefits of a well-developed infrastructure network are accessible to all residents.
The mayor said that the newly upgraded Ondjamba Road stands as a beacon of the municipality’s dedication to progress and prosperity.
“It is a clear indicator of what can be accomplished when a community comes together with a shared vision for a brighter, more connected future,” she said.
