Suspected drug dealer remanded in custody in N$264,000 drug bust

A 37-year-old Namibian man, Romanus Oscar Goraseb, appeared before the Walvis Bay Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 5 June 2026, following his arrest in connection with a drug seizure valued at N$264,650.

The case was postponed to Tuesday, 15 September 2026, for further police investigation.

No bail was granted.

Goraseb was arrested on Wednesday, 3 June 2026, at around 16h00 on Independence Street in Kuisebmund, Walvis Bay, during an intelligence-led operation.

Police recovered 2 000 full tablets, 14 halves and seven quarters of Mandrax tablets suspected to contain methaqualone, as well as eight half-moons, six blocks and six units of suspected crack cocaine.

He faces charges of dealing in methaqualone (alternatively possession of methaqualone), and dealing in crack cocaine (alternatively possession of crack cocaine), under the Abuse of Dependence-producing Substances and Rehabilitation Centres Act 41 of 1971.

He is additionally charged with money laundering under Sections 4, 5 and 6 of the Prevention of Organised Crime Act 29 of 2004.

Police investigations are ongoing.
