Deepsea Consolidated Investments donated six metric tons of salt-dried fish towards the government’s drought relief effort.

John Mutorwa, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Works and Transport, expressed profound gratitude to Deepsea Consolidated Investments for the donation on Monday.

“This act of generosity is a demonstration of the collaborative spirit required to combat the challenges caused by natural disasters,” he said.

This is the latest donation towards drought relief activities.

The government’s Drought Relief Programme, running from July 2024 to June 2025, is a comprehensive initiative aimed at providing immediate relief and long-term solutions to mitigate the effects of drought across Namibia.

“The donation of salt-dried fish is a critical component of this programme, ensuring that affected communities have access to essential nutrition during these challenging times,” he said.

Mutorwa added that the donation adds substantially to Namibia’s efforts to address food security and disaster management while also demonstrating the power of collaboration between the government and private sector in fighting hunger and giving hope to those in need.

Mutorwa stressed the values of compassion, empathy, and generosity as fundamental principles guiding the drought relief efforts.

He reiterated the government’s call for all development partners, including the private sector, state-owned enterprises, diplomatic missions, humanitarian institutions, NGOs, faith-based organisations, civic society organisations, and the public, to support the ongoing efforts to mitigate the impact of the drought.
