Last weekend, six people committed suicide in various parts of the country the latest police crime report indicated.
An 80 year-old man from Onanghulo village in Eenhana district forms part of these staggering statistics after he hanged himself with a rope yesterday. Nampol Spokesperson Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi said the deceased hanged himself at an unknown time.
He has since been identified as Jeutkus Mwandingi. Shikwambi added that Mwandingi hanged himself on a tree in his communal land. He was residing with his wife and five children. No foul play is suspected and his next of kin were informed.
Another pensioner, aged 72 also committed suicide by hanging himself on Friday, at Kaguni village in Kavango West. Police say the deceased, Tjifaku Liu hanged himself with a rope in his bedroom. “The motive is not known and there was no suicide note left behind. His next of kin are informed,” Shikwambi said.
Police in Outapi are also investigating a suicide incident following the discovery of Kautondokwa Shipena’s remains. The deceased, aged 24, reportedly hanged himself on Friday at Tobias Hainyeko Location in Outapi town. His next of kin are informed.
Another man from the Omahenene district committed suicide on Friday at Iishanaputa village, Onesi. He has been identified as Erastus Shigwedha, aged 45.
“He hanged himself with a wire around his neck in a hut in the house. It is further alleged that the deceased was alone in the house at the time of incident. His next of kin were informed,” Shikwambi said.
Meanwhile, another man from Oshakati’s Uupindi location also committed suicide on Saturday. The 34 year-old Amupolo David hanged himself with a rope on a tree, the police said.
It is alleged that a suicide note was left behind. His next of kin were informed and Police investigations continue.
Shikwambi also revealed that a 40 year-old woman, Marcellina Aluvilu hanged herself on Saturday. The incident happened at Ouma village.
“It is alleged that the deceased, Marcellina Aluvilu hanged herself with makalani palm leaves. Her next of kin were informed and Police investigations continue,”Shikwambi added.
