President Hage Geingob has conferred a state funeral on Ignatius Shixwameni, late President of the All People’s Party (APP).
The 55-year-old Shixwameni collapsed at parliament while attending a standing committee meeting last Wednesday. He is survived by his wife and six children.
“The remains of the late Honourable Shixwameni will be interred on a date and place to be agreed to in consultation with the family. He served in different political leadership roles including as Swapo Party Member of Parliament from 1995-1999, Deputy Minister of Information and Broadcasting between 1997 and 1999, and Swapo Party Youth League Leader between 1987 and 1999. In addition, the late Hon. Shixwameni served as the first Chairperson of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defense and Security,” Press Secretary in the Office of the President, Dr Alfredo Hengari, says in a statement.
