Moonde Shaalukeni of the SWAPO Party has retained his position as the Chairperson of the Khomas Regional Council. Shaalukeni will serve another term after he was officially sworn in yesterday.
He was elected as the Chairperson in November 2020 and served for a period of two years and six months.He was nominated by Councilor Emma Muteka and the nomination was seconded by Samuel Angolo.
In his speech, Shaalukeni highlighted the council’s achievements and said the council managed to approve and implement 11 social economic infrastructural development projects to the tune of N$33 885 620 during his term.
Shaalukeni added that N$13 million was budgeted to implement 20 projects of which the council managed to complete 13 while the remaining seven are in advanced stages of completion in the same period.
In addition, the council also elected Nestor Kalola, Stepanus Ndendgu and Samuel Angolo as members of the management committee.
Councillor Kalola was nominated by Angolo and seconded by Ndengu, Angolo was nominated by Shaalukeni and seconded by Kalola while Ndengu was nominated by Kalola and seconded by Muteka.
During his acceptance speech as the Chairperson, Shaalukeni committed to delivering on all projects planned by the council during his first term.
“I promise to deliver on all projects as per strategic plans and as mandated by the regional council and to uphold the mandate of the regional council and implement social economic programs that are aimed at improving the livelihood of the entire community of Khomas Region,” he said.
Furthermore, he pleaded with regional council staff members to uphold the tradition of teamwork.
“I am urging employees of the regional council to maintain the culture of working together as a team. I believe that it is only through teamwork will we be able to record enormous achievements and able to win more.
I am as well calling upon Khomas residents to join hands in partaking in the development of the region for the upliftment of the livelihood of the entire residents of Khomas region.
I will work tirelessly with my eye on the vision of the regional council, my ears open to the voice of all and my heart open to the population of Khomas,” Shaalukeni said.
